Fodor's Review

With its rain-forest murals, glass patios, and tree-stump tables, you’re never far from nature in this restaurant named for the mesmerizing blue butterflies that flit throughout Costa Rica. Start early with a fresh milk shake, and then return after a hike for the flavorful chicken, pork, beef, or fish dishes, each served with steamed vegetables, parsley potatoes, and creative sauces like pineapple curry, blue cheese, or bay-leaf-and-garlic sauce (a take on chimichurri). Opened in 1996, this Santa Elena staple started out as a vegetarian restaurant, and you’ll still find veggie burgers, meatless casados, and fresh salads. The top must-try at Morpho’s is the peanut-butter pie, prepared daily by the owner’s mother.
