Aphrodisias, the city of Aphrodite, goddess of love, is one of the largest and best-preserved archaeological sites in Turkey. It's interesting to compare this site to Ephesus, so although it's a bit of a detour, it's quite rewarding. You'll need a few hours to get a true taste of the site. It was home to a magnificent school of sculpture, and a number of surviving masterworks are on display in the Aphrodisias Museum.
