İzmir Palas Hotel

Atatürk Cad., Vasıf Çınar Bul. 2, Alsancak, Izmir, Izmir, 35210, Turkey

The fancier older sister of the Kilim Hotel farther down the Kordon waterfront has full sea views from half of the relaxing, attractive rooms. It was one of the first modern hotels in İzmir in 1927—look for Atatürk's visage in glowing lights on the side of the building. Inside, it has a plush lobby facing a bright square (with complimentary tea and coffee), and a splash of local color is introduced in the form of decorative antique typewriters and housewares. Downstairs, Deniz, a classic İzmir seafood restaurant, is jammed at night with hungry local elite.
