Calle Quintana 15, Puerto de la Cruz, Canary Islands, 38400, Spain
You're welcomed here by hibiscus scattered across the front steps—a sign that the Monopol has had more than a century to perfect its brand of hospitality. It was built as a private home in 1742, opened as a hotel in 1888, and has been run by the same family for more than 70 years. The neatly furnished rooms are on four stories with wooden balconies around a verdant central courtyard, and there's a lovely pool with ocean views. Most rooms overlook the sea or one of the town's main squares, Plaza de la Iglesia.
- great location
- historic building
- communal areas a little tired
