This art-centric designer B&B is enviously located in the beating heart of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s historic center just steps from Virgen Blanca Square. Inside the historic building are modern lofts that make an ideal accommodation for couples and the hotel offers full apartments that are perfect for families and for longer-term stays here in the capital of the Basque Country.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The studio and apartment options are located in a separate building multiple blocks away. Make sure you double-check which of the two you are in before arriving
Classic elements of exposed stone and timber fuse with avant-garde design in the playful rooms here. Stylish art and photography adorns the otherwise top-to-bottom white space filled with fun furnishings that all combine to evoke the feel of a hip art studio. Rooms come equipped with plasma TVs, free Wi-Fi, and AC. Apartment options come with full kitchens, separate living rooms, and pull out sofa beds for those that want a home away from home.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Street noise can be a problem during busy times of the year.
The bathrooms at La Casa de los Arquillos are simple but clean with all the essentials. Some bathrooms are more traditionally designed with gorgeous mirror frames that tie the space together nicely while others are contemporary with bright color tile.
There is not much of a reception area in this small hotel but on the top floor is a comfortable common room with leather furniture, local art, and plenty of reading material.
YOU SHOULD KNOW There is no elevator and the rooms are on the second floor so be prepared to do some lifting.
There is no formal dining option in the small hotel but a satisfactory continental breakfast is available in the common room for a small additional fee.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Breakfast is only available during the week.
This hotel has one of the best locations in the city, surrounded by the ancient old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz with all of its historical sights and pintxo bars at your doorstep. Both the bus and train terminals are just short walks away with regular transportation between the major Basque cities and here. The hotel has a few private parking spots nearby for a nightly fee for those with a car but you must reserve in advance.
Along the cobblestone streets of Vitoria are some of the best pintxo bars in the Basque Country that rival Bilbao and San Sebastián. Toloño (3-minute walk) is a required stop on your pintxo crawl. The beautiful modern space serves up a combination of classic and progressive takes on the timeless cuisine.
In the commercial district of the city is Perretxiko (5-minute walk), a longtime local favorite for both lunch and dinner that cooks phenomenal Basque dishes with the freshest local ingredients that rotate with the seasons, all at a pretty nice price point.
We love the atmosphere of Plaza de España for drinking outside when the weather is nice. The archetypical 18th century plaza is lined with good cafes and pintxo bars and La Unión (3-minute walk) is definitely the best at making drinks. When the sun goes down, check out La Dolce Vita (3-minute walk), a chic cocktail lounge with a creative menu and hours that go long into the night.
