Ctra. BI3101, Km 3 from Bakio, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Basque Country, 48130, Spain
The views from this diminutive hotel and restaurant, overlooking the hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, are some of the most vertiginous of the Basque coast. In Euskera, the Basque language, gaztelu means castle and begi is the word for eye, so "Gaztelubegi" adds up to "eye-castle," or lookout point. The bar is always booming and the food is simple Basque cooking, from alubias (white beans) to besugo (sea bream).
