Fodor's Expert Review Can Solé
With no sea views or touts outside to draw in diners, Can Solé has to rely on its reputation as one of Barceloneta's best options for seafood for more than 100 years. Faded photos of half-forgotten local celebrities line its walls, but there's nothing out-of-date about the food. Owner José Maria is a heavyweight presence with strict standards who gets his fish sent straight from the boats that land nearby each morning. Whether it's a local speciality of baked cuttlefish in a rich tomato sauce or the exquisite arròs negre amb sepia en su tinta (black rice with squid in its ink), everything here comes loaded with taste. In winter try to get close to the open kitchen for the aromas, sights, sounds, and warmth.
