Fodor's Expert Review Bravo 24

$$$ La Ciutadella and Barceloneta Spanish

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The gleaming glass walls of the ultramodern Hotel W are an unlikely place to find some of Barcelona's most traditional dishes, but celebrity chef Carles Abellan has playfully crafted an old-fashioned menu that gives hipness a history lesson. The decked terrace, complete with sun-loungers, is prime spot on sunny days. Dishes come with summaries of where and when they were first recorded and how they have evolved, but if you don't care about the background you can simply tuck into tapas, including unmissable roast chicken croquettes, and entrées such as fricandó, a delicious veal and mushroom stew that dates back to 1728.
