Mesón Castilla

Carrer Valldonzella 5, Barcelona, Catalonia, 08001, Spain

A few steps down Carrer Tallers from the top of La Rambla, on a short side street, there's almost nothing Barcelona about the Mesón Castilla, which feels like a well-appointed country hotel or a parador in Castile or La Mancha: classically Spanish, with mosaic tile floors and sconces, painted coffered ceilings and coats of arms, rooms with antique carved headboards and painted wooden armoires. The hotel is spotlessly kept, and charming. The patio off the breakfast room, lush with palms and hibiscus, is a treat to fetch your buffet tray to in good weather. Accommodations are on the small side; request a "Double Comfort" room, for a bit more space.
