Arguably the most central hotel in Ljubljana, Vander Urbani was born of architectural creativity; several 18th-century town houses in the old city were joined to form this trendy hotel right beneath the Ljubljana castle. The result is a refreshingly unconventional boutique hotel with plenty of design surprises at every step and an overarching feeling of staying at a multimillionaire's private house. The staff are tremendously friendly and the hotel is kept spotless. The swimming pool overlooking the city helps justify the price, as do the very imaginatively designed bathrooms.
