When to Go

Peak Season: May to September

As part of the northern moderate climatic zone, the best weather available for visitors to Slovakia is in summer, although the onset and departure of the season depend on elevation. July and August add more crowds to the hotels and sights as locals go on vacation.

Off Season: November to March

Although Slovakia's snowy, often below-freezing winter does significantly reduce street traffic in the towns and cities, it increases it on the slopes as skiers and snowboarders head to winter resorts in the Tatra Mountains.

Shoulder Season: April and October

Weather during these two months is an annual crap shoot—some years chilly and raining, others warm and sunny. Rates are cheaper, sometimes significantly, though some sights remain closed.
