Fodor's Expert Review Gleneagles Hotel

Off A823, Auchterarder, Perth and Kinross, PH3 1NF, Scotland Fodor's Choice

One of Britain's most famous hotels, Gleneagles is the very essence of modern grandeur, a vast palace that stands hidden in breathtaking countryside amid its world-famous golf courses. The rooms are elegant, hung with indulgent draperies and filled with soft leather furniture. All the pampering details are here, from fluffy bathrobes hanging behind the door to freshly cut flowers in every room. The hotel has several on-site restaurants (including a famous two Michelin–starred restaurant once overseen by chef Andrew Fairlie, who passed away in 2019), as well as a shopping arcade, a spa, an equestrian center, and a falconry center.

PROS

  • luxurious rooms
  • famous Andrew Fairlie restaurant
  • the three courses are a golfer's paradise

CONS

  • quite conservative decor
  • restaurants get very crowded
  • nongolfers may feel out of place
