Fodor's Expert Review Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum
Scottish-American industrialist and noted philanthropist Andrew Carnegie was born here in 1835. Don't be misled by the simple exterior of this 18th-century weaver's cottage—inside it opens into a larger hall, where documents, photographs, and artifacts relate his fascinating life story. The collection includes art from a wide range of periods, from medieval to 19th century to art deco, as well as displays on the genus of Jurassic dinosaur named after the great man—Diplodocus carnegii.
