Fodor's Review

Young chef Michael Neave delivers fine food at reasonable prices in his restaurant just off the Royal Mile. Down an old close is this modern edifice with tranquil terrace. The downstairs dining area lacks much warmth, but the whisky bar upstairs sparkles. Quality Scottish produce stars in dishes influenced by Asian and European cuisines: the west coast scallops with celeriac puree, black pudding, and caviar butter makes a wonderful starter. Meaty mains match Aberdeen Angus steaks, Perthshire venison, and roasted duck breast with imaginative sauces and beautifully cooked vegetables. Seafood lovers will enjoy the sea bass with crab and crayfish. Desserts include a delicious pear tarte tatin with whisky marmalade ice cream. Two-course express lunches are a bargain at only £8.
