Fodor's Review

Scheduled to reopen late in 2017 after a major restoration, the museum contains excellent paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, porcelain, costumes, and much else—from 18th-century art to major contemporary British works by Lucien Freud and Henry Moore. Scottish artists are well represented in the permanent collection and special exhibits. Local stone has been used in interior walls, pillars, and the central fountain, designed by the acclaimed British sculptor Barbara Hepworth. Look for the unique collection of Aberdeen silver on the ground floor. The museum also has a cake-filled café and well-stocked gift shop. Until the museum's reopening, some of the most important works in its collection can be seen at Drum Castle and in the Aberdeen Maritime Museum.
