This former textile factory, designed by the German architect Erich Mendelsohn in the early 20th century, was once run-down, but now it has a new lease on life. A local developer is transforming it into an international center for the arts and culture. A former power station here, which Mendelsohn shaped to resemble a ship, is now used for cutting-edge photography exhibitions, fashion shows, and large-scale media installations.
