Fodor's Expert Review Chez Lapin
At this Cais da Ribeira restaurant, the service may be slow and the folksy decor a bit overdone, but this is definitely a step up from other touristy spots on the riverfront—the food is consistently good and the location can't be beat. Grab a seat on the attractive outdoor terrace and order generous portions of such traditional Portuguese dishes as bacalhau à lagareiro (baked, with potatoes), sardines with rice and beans, and beef medallions with port wine. The restaurant is mainly patronized by foreign visitors, so if you're after authentic Porto cuisine in a less touristy setting, look elsewhere. The family-owned company that owns the restaurant (Douro Acima) offers river excursions on its six traditional boats docked at the quay.
