Ancient, mottled buildings within the ramparts of Vila Nova de Cerveira's 14th-century castle house this boutique property, which recently separated from Portugal's chain of government-run pousadas. The hotel retains its historic charm under private ownership. Guest rooms have reproductions of traditional Minho furniture; some rooms also have private patios. The modern restaurant ($$$$) features local Minho dishes, including robalo grelhado com molho manteiga (grilled bass with butter sauce). For dessert, try the pears poached in red wine.
