Fodor's Review

The first and only Michelin-starred restaurant in Madeira, located within the Cliff Bay Hotel, serves ambitious, high-end international cuisine, with prices to match. Though the dining area is staid, the terrace provides lovely views. Dishes are presented as works of art, and the extensive wine list showcases bottles from around the world (the excellent sommelier is happy to pair each course with top Portuguese wine, if you choose). Highlights include lobster and crab in lobster sauce and veal with a medley of peas—pea paste, pea shoots, and discs of pea—and a tomato chutney. Save room for one of the inventive desserts, such as the ball of hard chocolate with molten chocolate inside, served with creamy caramel and ginger, pineapple, and Madagascar vanilla ice creams. Chef Benoît Sinthon's four-course Signature Menu costs €95, and an extra €34 buys you carefully paired wines.
