Fodor's Expert Review Alfaia

$$ Chiado and Bairro Alto Portuguese

In this traditional restaurant (it's one of the oldest in Lisbon) in the former stables of what was once a local nobleman's palace, courteous staff serve up Portuguese classics such as arroz de galo (chicken rice), lulas grelhadas (grilled squid), and açorda de gambas (with prawns). As is evident from the dining room decoration, wine is a big deal here; indeed, there are 600 for you to choose from. Note that if you just want a drink and a snack, the Alfaia Garrafeira wine and tapas bar across the road is an excellent place to stop.
