Fodor's Expert Review Adega do Saloio

$ Sintra Portuguese

Families fill this popular restaurant on weekends, drawn by the juicy steaks being cooked over the open fire as you walk in. The dining room is festooned with garlands of onions and garlic. House wine is served in brown clay jugs, and little plates of smoked ham, cheese, and black olives decorate the tables to whet the appetite. It's fun just watching the waiters bustling about with skewers of grilled meat and fish. The espetada à Madeira (beef and laurel leaves on a skewer) that drips its juices as it's hung in front of you on the table is quite a spectacle.
