Fodor's Review

Excellent grilled meats and brisk service are the norm at this large typically Ribatejo restaurant by the bullring, decked out with suits-of-lights and other bullfight motifs. Non–meat eaters can try the mangusto com bacalhau assado (a garlickly bread-and-cabbage soup accompanying roasted codfish with fresh herbs) or, when available, fried sável (shad) from the River Tagus. In winter, a fire in the hearth may well welcome you. For dessert, ask for the celestes Santa Clara (almond cakes) or arrepiados de Almoster (almond meringues)—among many local sweets invented by medieval monks and nuns.
