Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Lis Batalha
Largo Mestre Afonso Domingues 6, Batalha, Leiria, 2440–102, Portugal
Named for the principal architect of the famous Batalha Monastery, this two-story stucco hotel is full of modern comforts. The outside may look rustic, but the good-size guest rooms are furnished in a simple, modern style and pamper you with plush bathrobes and towel warmers. The first-floor Vintage restaurant (€18) is renowned for its bacalhau dishes and grilled meats; it also offers a choice of salads and has a children's menu.
PROS
- central location with several rooms looking onto the monastery
- behind a pretty outdoor shopping area that sells crafts
- guests congregate in the lounge or on the outdoor terrace
CONS
- not the most peaceful location
- restaurant is a bit pricey
- limited facilities
