Fodor's Expert Review Casa São Nuno
Av. Beato Nuno 271, Fátima, Santarém, 2496–908, Portugal
This expansive lodging is run by the Carmelites, but is open to visitors of all faiths. There's a good-size chapel at the front of the inn, and the halls are decorated with display cases of swords that recall the turbulent times of medieval knight and mystic Nuno of Saint Mary, who was canonized in 2009. The austere rooms are clean and comfortable, with large crucifixes adorning the walls.
PROS
- restaurant serves inexpensive lunch and dinner
- souvenir shop where pilgrims can stock up
- low room rates
CONS
- attracts a mostly religious clientele
- very few amenities
- basic decor
