Fodor's Expert Review Nusfjord

Leknes Building/Architectural Site

Perhaps no fishing village in the world looks more idyllic than Nusfjord, 40 km (25 miles) south of Leknes. About 50 yellow and red cabins, dating mostly to the late 19th and early 20th century, coil charmingly around a small harbor and bay. The hamlet is also home to a bakery, sawmill, smithy, smokehouse, and cod liver oil refinery, all of which have helped earn Nusfjord UNESCO protection. Fishing fanatics come for the healthy sizes of cod, coalfish, halibut, and pollock, which also turn up on menus at most area restaurants.
