4 Best Nightlife in Svalbard, Norway

Funken Bar

Fodor's choice
Longyearbyen’s only cocktail lounge, this spot in the stylish Funken Lodge offers inspired drinks in an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere. Sitting by the fireplace, you can taste vintage wines or exquisite Champagnes—either with snacks from the bar menu or as a prelude to dinner at the adjacent Funktionærmessen Restaurant.

Karlsberger Pub

Fodor's choice
A must for anyone who loves cognac and whisky, this centrally located pub has more than 1,000 from which to choose. It's the largest selection in all of Norway, and (so they say) the world. The intimate space pays tribute to Longyearbyen’s long history as a mining town with portraits of local miners decorating the walls.

Svalbar Pub

Fodor's choice

Locals and visitors alike meet here for a pint of beer, occasional live music, and to watch soccer on TV. The laid-back atmosphere lets you relax after a long day outdoors, perhaps while enjoying a hearty burger or a brick-oven baked pizza of generous proportions. The place is open until 2 am—not that it will actually feel that late in the summer when the sun never sets. Cozy booths and killer cocktails---the list is long, inventive witty, and doesn't miss the classics.

Svalbard Bryggeri

Svalbard’s very own brewery produces IPAs, pale ales, wheat beers, stouts, and pilsners, all available right at the source. Made with ice from the 2,000-year-old Bogerbreen Glacier, Svalbard Bryggeri’s beer is deeply rooted in the archipelago: former miner Robert Johansen had to get the local liquor laws changed in order the start the business. Drop by on Friday night or book a tour (tours given three times a week).
