Fodor's Review

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

East Belfast was a gastronomic wilderness until this cool modernist restaurant opened. Now city-center folk regularly make the pilgrimage to take advantage of an opulent menu and wine list at comparably reasonable prices. The fixed-price dinner menu Monday–Thursday is particularly good value—20 for three courses or £17.50 for two courses (prices rise on weekends). Lunch, served seven days, is an informal affair—sea bass, pork-and-leek sausages, or minute steak—but dinner tarts up with such tasty treats as roast baby chicken with tabbouleh and broad beans, or roast fillet of cod with shrimp. With its great atmosphere, gentle prices, perpetually friendly staff, and fine food, it's little wonder that Aldens has scooped several top awards, including the prestigious Bridgestone accolade. Keep in mind that this is a fine time-out if you are visiting the Parliament buildings at Stormont.
