Fodor's Review

Access this house museum on the canal via the tradesmen's entrance (the old coach house) and then through the lovely garden at the back of the house, which has its front door on the golden bend of the Herengracht. Built in 1687 for Albert Geelvinck and his much younger wife, Sara Hinlopen, it's been home to some of Amsterdam's most notable families ever since. The interior rooms are reconstructions, though still interesting. Enthusiastic curators will be only too happy to fill you in on some of the details. There are regular concerts, as the Sweelinck musical instruments collection is housed here.
