Fodor's Expert Review Eye Film Institute Netherlands

Museum District Museum/Gallery

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

In December 2009, four Dutch film organizations, including the Filmmuseum, joined forces to form one sector-wide institute. In 2011 they'll move to the new building across the harbor designed by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects. Until then their home is an elegant 19th-century pavilion in the Vondelpark, where they screen a great collection of art-house classics with Wednesday-afternoon performances for kids, and the permanently packed Vertigo café with terraces overlooking the park. There are outdoor sunset performances in the summer. The library collections (Vondelstraat 69-71) cover the whole of cinematic history, from the earliest hand-tinted movies up to recent digital productions.
