Fodor's Expert Review Vakzuid

$$ Museum District Eclectic

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Slightly off-the-beaten-track, this sprawling bar-café-lounge-restaurant is in Section South of the still-new-looking 1928 Olympic Stadium, an architectural monument designed by one of the founders of De Stijl, Jan Wils. With its contemporary take on the functionally modern, Vakzuid fits right in. There's a huge sunny patio with comfortable seating under umbrellas, a solo-friendly bar specializing in coffee and designer sandwiches by day and cocktails and Asian snacks by night, a comfortable lounge area with a view over the track field, and a raised restaurant with an open kitchen serving a mix of Mediterranean and Asian cooking.
