An ornate brick mansion with (some) recently renovated rooms and fine park views and easy access to the Big Three museums, P.C. Hooftstraat (high end) shopping street and the Concertgebouw concert hall.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, which are set to be completed in March 2018. In the meantime, ask for one of the renovated “Amsterdam Loft Style” rooms.
The recently renovated (if smallish) rooms are contemporary with a warm, neutral color scheme, handcrafted all-natural Nilson beds, and trendy touches. For bursts of real color, simply look outside the windows, as front rooms have fine views of Vondelpark (always in demand) and those in the back look out over the garden and terrace. Amenities include free WiFi and flat-screen TVs.
Ask for a park-facing room, it’s worth it!
Modern, with walk-in showers or shower-in-tub combos (some with a black shower curtain), and basic amenities.
There is a large, sleek 24-hour reception area, but you can also relax in the roomy lounge area or private garden.
A breakfast buffet can be enjoyed in the dining room or, weather permitting, in the private garden.
There is a small in-house bar with decent espresso-based drinks and more, but you’re better off going exploring in the neighborhood as there’s plenty to choose from in the area.
The well-to-do neighborhood is within walking distance of the main museums and some nice bars and restaurants. Located next to Vondelpark, this hotel offers good access to Oud Zuid, the Canal Belt and the west side on foot. Trams are available at nearby Van Baerlestraat.
Sustainable seafood specialist The Seafood Bar (1-minute walk) offers smoked fish varieties from Volendam, delicately-battered fish and chips, four varieties of oyster and extravagant platters of fruits de mer. Sample some of the best fries in the city at Frietboutique (13-minute walk), which also offers excellent ice cream. Or soak up some authentic Art Deco atmosphere at Café Americain (10-minute walk) while tucking into “accessible brasserie classics with a twist”.
Popular café Gollem’s Proeflokaal, a dark and cozy Belgian beer café with more than 180 bottled brews and 22 on tap, is a 7-minute walk away. If you’re looking for the convivial atmosphere of a typical Dutch “brown café”, there’s Café De Wetering (12-minute walk).
