Fodor's Expert Review Bilderberg Garden Hotel
Dijsselhofplantsoen 7, Amsterdam, North Holland 1077 BJ, The Netherlands See on Map
This bulky, modern hotel, with spacious rooms and a well-regarded restaurant, looms over a tree-lined street in a residential area. While the property lacks any sort of historical allure, you'll find plenty of charm in the area nearby.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The hotel is within walking range of the Vondelpark, Concertgebouw, and Museumplein, but it’s a good 20-minute walk from the center.
room
Comfortably sized guest rooms are clean with a blue-brown businesslike décor that could do with an update. On the plus side, there are large beds, free WiFi, work desks, air-conditioning and coffee and tea facilities.
bathroom
Clean and contemporary, if a little small, with Pure Herbs bathroom products.
lobby
Large and airy, but not particularly inviting for lingering longer than needed for checking in or out.
gym
Though the Bilderberg Garden Hotel doesn't have a fitness center, guests can use the gym across the street for a discounted fee.
dining
With its contemporary take on French cuisine and fine wine list, restaurant De Kersentuin is certainly worth a visit. It was recently included in the Lekker 500 2018, an annual guide with the 500 best restaurants in the Netherlands.
drinking
Love a good Bloody Mary? Then you’re in luck at De Kersentuin Bar, where there’s a Bloody Mary Cocktail menu, but also classic cocktails and other drinks. A cozy terrace with a fireplace means you can drink al fresco any time of year.
Hotel bars in Amsterdam are rarely cheap (mind you, are they cheap anywhere?), so if you’re looking for a more affordable drink you’d be better off exploring the area.
LOCATION
Getting Around
This hotel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood near the RAI Convention Center, Concertgebouw, Vondelpark, and the Big Three museums. Tram access is available at nearby De Lairessestraat and Beethovenstraat, but you can also easily park your car (though there is a charge).
Restaurants
Sample some of the best fries in the city at Frietboutique (5-minute walk), which also offers excellent ice cream. Stay put for some casual fine dining, or head to trendy Taiko at the Conservatorium Hotel for contemporary Asian flavors (15-minute walk). Or why not try a twenty-tens take on local cuisine at Restaurant Floreyn (16-minute walk)?
WHY WE LIKE IT
With a good in-house restaurant and bar and convenient location near the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center, premium shopping streets and the main museums, the Bilderberg Garden Hotel is a good choice if you’re planning to combine your business trip with some shopping or a visit to a museum.
