- The impressive Siftsgarden is the largest wooden palace in Scandinavia. Built in 1778, it's the official Royal residence in Trondheim.
- Take a dip on Monk's Island; originally a monastery and later a prison, it's now a swimming and recreation area.

- The Saint Olav Festival in last July and early August features opera, concerts, and kid-friendly activities.

- Bymarka, on Trondheim's outskirts, has a well-developed network of hiking trails along the fjords.
