In the quiet Dorsoduro sestiere, close to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, 12-room Locanda Ca’ Zose is housed in a 17^th-century building with plenty of original detail. Though rooms and bathrooms tend to be quite small, some have Rio de la Fornace canal views. Nearby ferries make it easy to get to points of interest all around Venice.

YOU SHOULD KNOW If you’re traveling with heavy bags, you may want to weigh your options as Locanda Ca’ Zose has no elevator and rather steep and narrow stairs—and there’s not always someone around to help carry things.

Red, green, and blue rooms are cute and a little old-fashioned, with patterned bedspreads, curtains, and carpeting (though one suite has tiled floors). Beamed ceilings add an authentic touch.

Walls can be a bit thin, so try for a higher floor room so you’ll have no upstairs neighbors.
