Fodor's Expert Review Locanda Ca' Zose
Calle del Bastion, Dorsoduro 193/B, Venice, Veneto, 30123, Italy See on Map
In the quiet Dorsoduro sestiere, close to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, 12-room Locanda Ca’ Zose is housed in a 17th-century building with plenty of original detail. Though rooms and bathrooms tend to be quite small, some have Rio de la Fornace canal views. Nearby ferries make it easy to get to points of interest all around Venice.
YOU SHOULD KNOW If you’re traveling with heavy bags, you may want to weigh your options as Locanda Ca’ Zose has no elevator and rather steep and narrow stairs—and there’s not always someone around to help carry things.
room
Red, green, and blue rooms are cute and a little old-fashioned, with patterned bedspreads, curtains, and carpeting (though one suite has tiled floors). Beamed ceilings add an authentic touch.
Walls can be a bit thin, so try for a higher floor room so you’ll have no upstairs neighbors.
bathroom
Tiled bathrooms tend to be quite compact and come with either a shower or a combo bathtub/shower.
lobby
The bright and airy lobby, with tile floors, beamed ceilings, and a smattering of oil paintings, has a few chairs for hanging out—though you're better off finding a canal-side view outside if the weather’s nice.
dining
There’s no restaurant at Locanda Ca’ Zose, but they do serve a free buffet breakfast (though it’s fairly standard).
LOCATION
Getting Around
The Salute vaporetto stop is only a 2-minute walk, from where you can sail along the Grand Canal to Piazza San Marco (about 10 minutes total). Or the Santa Maria del Giglio traghetto stop, 1 minute away, will take you directly across the Grand Canal to the San Marco side.
Restaurants
Charming La Bitta (11-minute walk) serves market-inspired cuisine including pasta and meat (no fish)—and don’t miss the panna cotta for dessert. Osteria alla Bifora (15-minute walk) serves large platters of meats, cheeses, salads, and more in an atmospheric setting in bustling Campo Santa Margherita.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Locanda Ca’ Zose’s rooms have a traditional Venetian charm, and the inn’s location is super-convenient for frequenting Dorsoduro’s excellent museums.
