It can be tough to find less expensive accommodations in expensive Venice, which makes Casa Rezzonico such a great find. It’s quiet (in the artsy Dorsoduro neighborhood), clean, and even has some rooms that look out over a canal, Rio de San Barnaba. It also has a lovely private garden, where the complimentary breakfast is served on nice days.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Some of the rooms are a little worse for wear—though at these prices, it’s really hard to complain too much.
With either terrazzo or parquet floors and wood furniture, rooms are sparse but tidy. Views are nothing to sneeze at, looking out to either a small canal or the hotel’s garden.
There are rooms with three and four beds, great for families or those traveling with friends.
The lobby is functional, more a place to check in rather than to spend any time.
Matteo and Mattia, the couple who own the hotel and also act as the “concierges,” are very friendly and eager to provide guests with advice on what to see in the city, as well as to get any tickets you might need.
The Ca’ Rezzonico vaporetto stop is only 4 minutes away from the hotel, from which you can sail to San Marco and all around the island. If you prefer to walk rather than boat, you can cross the Pont dell’Accademia (Accademia Bridge) over to San Marco (20-minute walk to Piazza San Marco).
Osteria alla Bifora (2-minute walk) features large platters of meats, cheeses, salads, and more in an atmospheric setting in bustling Campo Santa Margherita. Charming La Bitta (3-minute walk) serves market-inspired cuisine including pasta and meat (no fish)—and don’t miss the panna cotta for dessert.
Lively wine shop/bar Cantine del Vino già Schiavi (7-minute walk) has no seating, but serves up inexpensive wines with interesting small bites. Osteria al Squero (8-minute walk) is a casual bacaro (wine bar) with tasty cicchetti (bar snacks)—especially the panini and cheeses—with a fine selection of wine by the glass.
WHY WE LIKE IT
When you can’t break the bank but still want a place with fairly easy access to the Venice sights, Casa Rezzonico is a solid choice.
