Why We Like It

Belmond Hotel Cipriani has loads of style, class, and history—it’s the most famous hotel in Venice for a reason. If you can afford it, it truly is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime Venetian experience.

Fodor's Expert Review

Pure extravagance. If that’s what you’re after for your Venice experience, nowhere will do but the Belmond Cipriani. It has amazing service, wonderful rooms, fab restaurants, and a large pool and spa, all on Giudecca Island, just a five-minute boat ride from Piazza San Marco (which you can reach every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, on the hotel’s water shuttle). The Cipriani is Venetian luxe at its best.

You Should Know As you’d expect, the Cipriani is jaw-droppingly expensive, so if you don't have an unlimited budget, you may want to look elsewhere.

Room

Lovely guest rooms are large and full of old-world charm. All have wood floors and glamorous furnishings; some face the lagoon while others offer pretty garden or pool views.

Tip Suites are even more elegantly furnished and all include private balconies, so that’s the way to go if your wallet will allow.

Bathroom

Oversized marble bathrooms include double sinks; most have separate showers and bathtubs. Some junior suites and up even feature the ultimate indulgence: two bathrooms.

Tip Gorgeous bath products are from the exclusive The Merchant of Venice line; you'll definitely want to take some home.

Lobby

The elegant lobby, with terrazzo floors and Murano glass chandeliers, is a wonderful place to stop and people-watch. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a celebrity or two.

Pool

The magnificent Olympic-sized pool, filled with seawater, is an amazing place to chill after a long day of sightseeing. And you don’t even have to leave to eat and drink—order from the pool menu to have things delivered right to your sunbed.

Spa

The Casanova Wellness Centre—set inside the lush Casanova gardens where the namesake paramour allegedly wooed his lovers—offers massages, body and facial treatments, and a sauna and steam bath.

Tip For the ultimate indulgence, try the Cipriani’s signature treatment: the Damascus Velvet Botanical Ritual, which includes a body wrap, foot bath, scrub, and body massage.

Gym

The fitness center, though on the small side, features Technogym equipment and garden views, and personal trainers are available for hire upon request. There are also tennis courts overlooking the lagoon.

You Should Know The gym’s only open till 8pm, so late-evening workouts are a no-go.

Dining

Cipriani guests are spoiled for choice. There’s Michelin-starred Oro restaurant, set in a beautiful room with a gold leaf ceiling and water views, which specializes in creative Venetian dishes with lots of seafood and veggies, or dine outside right on the water’s edge at the more casual Cip’s Club. Pool-goers can take a break at the charming adjacent Porticciolo restaurant, while Giudecca 10 serves up traditional Italian food and wine.

Drinking

The Gabbiano Bar, next to the pool, specializes in Negronis and other tasty cocktails, and is open late.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel’s boat shuttle runs to and from their private dock near St. Mark’s Square every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day; it’s only a five-minute ride.

Restaurants

Though all dining options outside the hotel obviously require a boat ride to reach, it’s easy to pop back and forth to the San Marco area whenever you want. Osteria Enoteca San Marco (13-minute boat and walk) is a worthy exception: a sophisticated, contemporary Italian bistro with a fine selection of wines. For a splurge (though it gets mixed reviews), the refined Italian cuisine at Michelin-starred Ristorante Quadri (14-minute boat and walk) is worth checking out. Ai Mercanti (15-minute boat and walk), which creates inventive dishes at a reasonable price, is another nearby place to try.

Bars

Try a Bellini cocktail at the place it was invented, Harry’s Bar (10-minute boat and walk), or enjoy wonderful Piazza San Marco views at Caffè Florian (13-minute boat and walk).
