Fodor's Expert Review Montefioralle
Greve in Chianti
Town/Village
A tiny hilltop hamlet, about 2 km (1 mile) west of Greve in Chianti, Montefioralle is the ancestral home of Amerigo Vespucci (1454–1512), the mapmaker, navigator, and explorer who named America. (His niece Simonetta may have been the inspiration for Sandro Botticelli's Birth of Venus, painted sometime in the 1480s.)
