When they want to eat well, Vicentini generally head to the countryside, so it is telling that this is one of the few restaurants in the city frequented by local families and the business community. Done in Veneto country style, with enormous murals, agli Schioppi serves simple, well-prepared regional cuisine with some modern touches. The risotto, delicately flavored with wild mushrooms and zucchini flowers, is creamy and beautifully textured—or try the Vicenza specialty, baccalà. The "Menu Palladiana" presents 16th-century dishes featuring spices common during that period, such as cinnamon and cloves, and omitting New World items like tomatoes and potatoes.
