Fodor's Review

Directed by prolific Roman actor Gigi Proietti, this theater replicates the London original inaugurated in 1576. Rome's homage to Shakespeare is built entirely of wood, and seats 1,250 with standing room for 420 groundlings (following Elizabethan custom). Performances run July–September and are usually works by Shakespeare translated into Italian. Set in the Villa Borghese park, it is roughly midway between the Bioparco and the Museo Carlo Bilotti. Check the website for admission, as prices vary.
