Fodor's Expert Review Inn at the Spanish Steps
Via dei Condotti 85, Rome, Latium, 00187, Italy See on Map
Occupying the upper floors of a centuries-old townhouse it shares with Antico Caffè Greco, this quaint yet cushy hotel wins a gold star for its smart design and sharp decor. Rooms and suites are stylishly outfitted with stripped walls, warm neutral tones, frescoed ceilings, and hardwood floors. Some of the executive rooms feature canopy beds and Jacuzzis. This is a great place to rest your head after a hard day of shopping on Rome's \"Rodeo Drive.\"
room
Rooms are fittingly designed in bold purples, reds, and grays, almost like the showroom of Prada just below. Beds are large and comfortable, some with a canopy, and each room has unique chairs or benches to laze about on. Rooms facing the street have a lot of natural light. All rooms include air conditioning, satellite TV, a safe, and tea service.
The Honeymoon Suite has a private terrace that looks out onto the Spanish Steps. If you book this room, you'll be hard-pressed to venture downstairs.
bathroom
Bathrooms feature marble tiling and walls and great details like modern sinks juxtaposed with antique gold mirrors. There's a wide assortment of ETRO toiletries included, as well as bathrobes and slippers. A small wall hairdryer could use an upgrade.
Some executive rooms have a Jacuzzi bathtub.
lobby
You'll have to take the small elevator or stairs to reach the entrance, where there's a large oak check-in desk and a small seating area with lovely striped wallpaper. Staff is on call around the clock to help out with any needs you might have. There's also a small internet corner where you can use a computer and printer.
YOU SHOULD KNOW There's only one small elevator that is unfortunately not always in service.
dining
Breakfast comes with a variety of healthy options, including fresh fruits and juices served on the rooftop terrace. There's a free afternoon snack every day, and an included aperitivo in the evening if you order a drink.
LOCATION
Getting Around
You'll be right in the center of Rome, an easy walk to the city's top sights. The best luxury shopping in Rome in steps away on Via dei Condotti. The Spagna Metro Station is just a 5-minute walk away and can take you all over the city. Villa Borghese is also nearby for beautiful morning walks.
Restaurants
Ristorante ll Falchetto (10-minute walk) is a romantic setting with wood-beamed ceilings and bottles of wine lining the wall. Its central location makes it an easy stop for lunch in-between sightseeing. Orto (16-minute walk), a popular vegan and vegetarian restaurant, has an amazing and well-priced lunch buffet and weekend brunch.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The Inn is located in a historical building in a monumental location. We love the super-helpful staff that aims to please. Furnishings are more than comfortable, and booking a room here feels like having your own private residence above the best shops in Rome. And if you want to venture beyond the neighborhood, many ancient sights are a short walk away, and a metro station is just across the street.
