Tucked away on a quiet street near the Spanish Steps, this midsize hotel is convenient to great cafés, serious shopping, and all the sights. Built in 1910, the hotel's fine views of the whole area can be enjoyed from either of two rooftop terraces. Guest rooms are furnished in true Roman style with wooden fixtures, beautiful antiques, and rich, colored fabrics. Families or those traveling in a group can rent the hotel's apartment which allows for more space.
Rooms are elegantly decorated in bright gold, red or blue colors and oak furniture. They're fairly spacious, and large windows let in lots of natural light. Beds will suit those who like a firm sleep. All rooms have a minibar, WiFi and satellite TV. Suites have terraces with a beautiful view of Roman rooftops.
The penthouse apartment, with two bedrooms and extra pullout beds, can accommodate up to eight people. It has two bathrooms, one with a Jacuzzi tub.
Bathrooms are decorated in bright gold tiles and generally spacious with a full array of house toiletries.
Lobby is a tight space with minimal seating area. There is a computer and printer available if you need to use it.
The hotel's simple Vudabar serves a breakfast buffet each morning with fresh pastries and juices. The walls are adorned with headshots of stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood. They're also open for meals throughout the day, as well as cocktails and coffee.
The hotel is right in the heart of centro storico, so getting around on foot is easy. The Spagna Metro is a 6-minute walk away and taxis are easy to hail. Fiumicino is a 40-minute drive away, or you can get the airport shuttle at Termini Station, a 10-minute drive away.
La Pratolina (9-minute drive) has perfectly cooked pizzas at great prices. I Butteri (12-minute drive), named after the traditional Tuscan cowboys, has incredible grilled meats in enormous portions.
Gregory's Jazz Club (5-minute walk) is a romantic spot with an incredible whiskey menu. Call ahead to see who is playing. Enoteca Ferrara (14-minute drive) has a wine list two fists thick, and fortunately, the helpful staff will guide you through it.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Located in Rome's busy high-end shopping district, Hotel Homs is on a quiet side street, central to everything. You can easily walk to the city's main attractions including Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Although rooms are simple and small, staying in the centro storico, you'll want to be out and about all day. The hotel's furnished terraces give you a view above it all.
