On the west bank of the Tiber between the Spanish Steps and St. Peter's Basilica (a five-minute stroll from Piazza del Popolo), this modern luxury hotel is tucked away from the chaos of the centro storico but still close enough for convenient sightseeing. Housed in a 19th Century building, it also hosts a private art collection. Amenities include a bar, cafeteria, gym, and a panoramic rooftop garden with sunbeds. Limited free parking is also available nearby.
This hotel also is a great option for accommodating children. There's even an indoor play area.
Rooms are tastefully furnished in contemporary English design with mahogany furniture, velvet chairs, antique prints, and hardwood floors. They're spacious by European standards. Linens are high-quality atop fluffy beds and pillows. All rooms include satellite TV, WiFi, an electronic safe, and bonus, a smart phone that you can take with you during your stay to save on roaming fees.
Spotless bathrooms are decked out in marble with huge mirrors, lots of lighting and big bathtubs. A full array of toiletries is included as well as bathrobes and slippers.
An expansive marble lobby impresses. There's always staff behind the giant oak desk ready to help out. And a separate reading area provides newspapers and magazines each morning.
A small gym looks out onto the hotel terrace. Equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bike, cross-trainer, and basic weights.
A hot Italian buffet breakfast is offered each morning with a wide variety of options including fresh pastries, eggs, meats and cheese.
The lobby opens into a small hotel bar for drinks throughout the day. In the summer, guests can enjoy an aperitif in the rooftop garden.
The hotel is just an 11-minute walk to either Lepanto or Flaminio Metro Station. It's a quick taxi ride to both Vatican City and Villa Borghese. Buses are also plentiful to take you to various historic sites. And Termini Station is a 15-minute drive away.
Fa-bio (20-minute walk) serves healthy salads, smoothies, and sandwiches if you're looking for a break from pasta. Angrypig Birretta e Porchetta (26-minute walk) offers the famous Italian ham sandwich and beer to match.
Emporio alla Pace (16-minute walk) is set up like a living room with lots of comfy furniture, and great coffee or cocktails served throughout the day. Del Frate (17-minute walk) is a wine bar in a romantic brick wall setting.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The hotel is clean, comfortable and cozy, with a prime location for exploring Rome. The area is also great for shopping. We love the thoughtful details like the unique art collection, and a rooftop terrace for summer sunbathing. Beds and furniture are very comfortable, and overall rooms and bathrooms have more space than the typical Roman hotel at this price. An extra-friendly staff is an added bonus.
