Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Carved out of a cliff opening onto the Adriatic, the Grotta Palazzese inhabits a stunning group of rocks and grottoes that have wowed onlookers for ages. Though most rooms have sea views, ask for one of the seven cave apartments across the road rather than the more boxlike rooms in the main block. Grotta Palazzese's main draw is its summer restaurant (open May through October, but also open in winter between December and March). The dramatic setting incorporates rock formations, with tables actually standing on an implausible bridge inside a jagged cave, while waves cast blue-green shadows on the grotto walls. It's one of the most romantic settings in all Italy.
- romantic (albeit overpriced) restaurant
- great location
- a long climb down to the sea
Rate Includes: Hotel closed late Oct.–late Apr. Restaurant also open in winter Dec.–Mar., Breakfast
