Fodor's Review

A port in all weather, especially for local professionals and tourists, this hotel bistro–bar, which is also home of the new Reykjavík Bar Summit event, has played a key role in restarting the heart of the Old Harbor. It’s especially popular on weekends, when it pumps out a contagious flow of good vibes to go with its filling brunch, legendary cocktails, and highly addictive, licorice-flavored popcorn. Managed by cocktail wizard Ásgeir Björnsson, the bar is stacked to hilt with glass jars containing experimental infusions, bearing labels with curious names like “cherry blossom bourbon” and “duck-washed cognac.” Waiters serving drinks from chemistry-set beakers reinforce a respect for the scientific approach at Slippbarinn, where you can dine on top-notch nosh at fair prices. Don’t hesitate to order the sensational seafood platter, or the superlative “Omnom” chocolate cake.
