Fodor's Expert Review Lazaros

$$ Spetses Town Greek

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A boisterous local crowd fills the small tables—which spill onto the street in summer—and old family photos, potted ivy, and barrels of retsina line the walls. A small selection of well-prepared dishes includes some daily specials, such as goat in lemon sauce, chicken kokkinisto (slow-cooked with orzo and tomato sauce), spetsofai (tender pieces of pork with piccante peppers), and, occasionally, fresh fish at good prices. Tasty appetizers include homemade tzatziki (cucumber-yogurt dip), taramosalata (fish roe dip), mavromatika (black-eyed pea salad), and tender beets with skordalia (galic-potato dip). Order the barrel retsina, priced by the kilo.
