Fodor's Expert Review Popi's Grill
The oldest family tavern in Naxos, established in 1948, remains true to the Margartis family traditions of cooking authentic Greek dishes with homegrown vegetables and local products. Order (and savor) the fried-cheese appetizer, Naxian saganaki, while its hot with a bit of lemon, or the chicken and pork souvlaki served with freshly cut fried Naxian potatoes. Save room for their famous complimentary dessert of creamy, thick Greek yogurt mixed with honey and lemon. The tavern also sells a range of Naxian liquor and fresh local cheese. Be sure to check out the historic black-and-white photos of Naxos Town as it grew around the taverna over the decades.
