Cruise Travel to Patmos

Ships dock in Skala, the island’s main port and busiest town, or drop anchor just offshore. Most of the island’s restaurants and stores are in Skala, a delightful little place with a lively waterfront and quiet backstreets lined with whitewashed houses.

It’s easy to move around by taxi—and fairly inexpensive, since distances are short. The island's main sights, the Monastery of the Apocalypse and Monastery of St. John the Theologian, are just above Skala, with the Monastery of St. John crowning the hilltop town of Chora. Both are within easy reach by a short taxi ride, and the island’s limited bus routes also provide regular service from Skala up the hill past the Monastery of the Apocalypse to Chora. Buses also serve Kambos and other popular spots around the island. A rental car makes it easy to tour the small island, and a day allows plenty of time to see the sights with a stop at a beach; rentals are available from agencies on the Skala waterfront and cost about €50–€80 a day.
