Shady lanes and babbling brooks winding through the forested grounds of a former Venetian estate would be quite enticing even without the presence of some of Rhodes’s most famous inhabitants: brown-and-red Jersey tiger moths that swarm to create a much-observed spectacle. You’ll find more rustic retreats elsewhere on Rhodes, but a walk through the cooling woods can be refreshing—and especially rewarding during prime swarm times: dusk in July and August.
