Fodor's Expert Review Osterman

Atmospheric, ultrapopular Osterman is housed in an old textile shop and has impossibly high ceilings and wonderful mosaic floors on lively and fashionable Ayia Irini Square. The dark mahogany wood, the long bar, the cream leather sofas work together to create a cinematic effect: is this modern Athens or a film noir set from the 1950s? Though mostly a cocktail bar (bartender Yiannis Korovesis is rumored to make the best Bloody Mary in town), it also draws young, trendy, and artsy crowd who also comes here for the food (especially dishes like the tuna with caramelized onions and the lamb burger). There is also a more affordable lunch menu option until 5 pm (expect to pay around €17 for a main). At night it can get very busy, so make sure you have a reservation. This is a smoke-friendly place so come prepared.
