Fodor's Expert Review anna Hotel

Schützenstr. 1, Munich, Bavaria, 80335, Germany, Munich, Germany See on Map

This hotel isn't particularly inspiring externally - its round tower is emblazoned with cheap-looking signage and it's on a busy junction. However, things improve internally and to the side, with a focus on modern, funky design, a buzzing bistro restaurant and streetside terrace overlooking Schützenstrasse, a pedestrian street leading to the train station, and very friendly, cool young staff.

room

Rooms have comfortable queen size and king size beds and differing designs, with splashes of pink and light woods. Rooms higher up the hotel, and the pricing scale, have nice rooftop views.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Rooms which face the street with cars and trams can be loud. Ask for a room facing the pedestrianized thoroughfare instead if noise bothers you.

bathroom

Bathrooms have large windows with black shutters and black marble sinks and rain showers. Ceilings are pleasingly high, giving the facilities an airy feel, and toiletries are from the White Company.

lobby

The hotel's small reception desk is staffed by very willing personnel.

spa

Anna's sister hotel, the Königshof, is a couple of minutes away, and use of the spa and gym there is free for Anna guests.

dining

The location and good food at the hotel's restaurant make it a busy place where locals stop in for a drink and a bite to eat. Try the dim sum.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Breakfast is good - although not always included - but if it is included, so is the mini bar in the room.

drinking

The hotel's buzzy, modern restaurant doubles up as its bar, and maintains the same bright, cheerful vibe.

The MAT gin, flavored with thyme, comes particularly recommended.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Close to the main station and also the rest of the Old Town's sights, anna's location is a definite strong point.

Restaurants

Sophia's (8-minute walk), in the Charles Hotel, offers great tapas and a BBQ on the terrace in summer. Or go full Bavarian at the affordable Andy's Krablergarten (14-minute walk).

Bars

Cool cocktais and ambience can be found at Zum Wolf (18-minute walk). Or head into the maelstrom (a fun one, we promise) at the traditional beerhall, the Augustiner Keller (14-minute walk).

WHY WE LIKE IT

Modern and friendly, with a buzzing bar and restaurant, anna hotel feels hip and at the heart of things. Prices aren't bad for the location and vibe, either.
